Con esta pieza Magritte subraya la naturaleza escencia del la pintura, esto es, que se trata de imágenes que representan cosas. Al mismo tiempo pone en evidencia una de las consecuencias que traen consigo los medios de representación, el ser tomados por la cosa misma. Este alejamiento o extrañamiento del objeto real es, sin duda, una de las características más notables de nuestra época y en parte se debe al poder y popularidad de la fotografía en sociedades como la nuestra.

-With this work Magritte reveal the escence of the painting, which means that the paints are images, images that represent things. At the same time, with the same work, expose one of the consecuences of the representation, the confuse between the image and the real thing. This alienation from the real things is one of the main caracteristics of our time and its have been, in part, for the strong popularity of the photography in a societies like ours.
