-As never before in history, works of art, great works of universal painting , sculpture, architecture or graphics, are available to virtually anyone with access to the Internet. Today, mainly in urban areas, no one can argue ingnorance on these works, or in other words, very few are those who can say without lying, unaware that, for example, what is the Mona Lisa or say than ever have seen.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, what should be noted is that what we have is not access to the works themselves, but rather to their images or rather the photographic images of such paintings or sculptures. What then is what we know, the Mona Lisa or one or hundreds of photos that have been made this canvas? Is there any difference between seeing, knowing, the piece painted by Da Vinci and the photography of the most luxurious editions reproduced it?

-Look at the photograph that accompanies these lines, what do we like it?, Or in other words what is it that makes us look like a good photograph? Of course that is what gives the picture: the youth of the model, candidly with that show, which assumes the pose, his smile and warmth, his fine factions, how she looks us, and so on. But for a moment, what we are evaluating here, the model or something more evanescent that we call photograph? In short when we evaluate a photograph we do for his subject, the image that has been on its surface, or other aspects? Say it is for other aspects, wondering now which of them belong exclusively to photography; which are entirely photographic?, What are then those other aspects?

-In other mediums that produces images may have a degree of security on skill, dexterity and scope of both the media and who it employs. For example, in the case of the painting you can ask the painter or artist that we draw a picture, let the case of one person. Depending on the outcome evaluate its expertise in the medium and the scope of this. But do in a photograph, what we will ask the photographer? What knows where it is the shutter, where the film is loaded or where will the memory card depending on whether analog or digital images? Does that remove the lens cap? What is put in front of the subject that he want to portray?

The example that comes with this reflection is excellent in this regard, we know that the picture who carried out successfully at least a close resemblance to the photograph Are we will ask the same to the photographer? Of course not given that the expected result would be precisely that, we get a similar more than convincing the person depicted. Thereupon how and what we evaluated in a photograph?

-If we were to judge a photograph, do based on what values we would do? You can think in terms formal or technical, if composition, if the light, if the paper, the contrasts, and so on. Is sufficient to assess the photograph that we have in front? I think not, as a building is not the amount of rods, cement and glass used in its construction, neither a photograph its the silver salts or paper on which is printed, it must be something else, something that, one, qualify as a photograph, and two, like a value photograph. Besides to define both aspects, could subject the same procedure all the images we deal with on a daily basis? In other words, could we ask for the value of all the pictures that we see every day?

-Our insistence on the photographs of pets, is guided by what was said by Susan Sontag on how the photograph came to turn the world into a huge photo album. There is no reason big or small, according to this argument, which is not worth being photographed, everything acquires the same value. The problem, then, is how to distinguish, how to differentiate one product from another, or Are we agree with everything that has the same value?

La revancha de las mascotas III

Imagen tomada de http://www.hormiga.org/
¿No es adorable? ¿No te da ternura?
-Is not lovable? Do not you give tenderness? Is it funny, no? These seens be the reasons that people often give when asked about why make pics of their pets. No doubt these are the reasons why and explains too why in each opportunity they have made a photo, but do they have to see these images with other kinds of photographs, besides being made through such mechanisms and procedures? In truth very little, since these photographs of pets to be heavily regulated so that their range or even breakdown of the rule is practically non-existent; this factor, breaking the rule, which leads to innovation, experimentation , and produce the variety to enrich the group.

-The question that we raise has to do with the reasons that might have anyone to stop to take a photo of a pet -as it could be in any other situation-what do these images had to offer? Is it funny that may be disguising these animals? Is it unique to the situation? Does the lack of any attractive interest or concern? One might think that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find anything surprising or extraordinary than pludge a little more in mediocrity and trivilaidad. Will why these images eventually prevail over any other photograph?
